Making real connections and a "Sequins Are A Girls Best Friend" giveaway!

Monday, July 28, 2014

I had a simple vision when I launched Sweet Market Lane a few short months ago and that was to connect with people who shared the same interests as me.  And when I say people...I mean REAL people that I could interact with in-person and not just over the 2x3 inch screen of my iPhone.  Little did I know that I would hit the friend jackpot when I first connected with Kelsey and Erica, the two Chicago based fashion bloggers behind Sequins Are A Girl's Best Friend.

At first I just loved seeing their photos taken right outside my office on the Chicago river and because I have no fashion sense what so ever, I was taking near daily notes on their outfits!  Honestly, each one is spot on, every time combining brand names from Nordstrom with the best picks from the most accessible stores like Forever21 and Kohl's.  Can't beat that!

Did I mention we have a mitten state connection too?!  My heart almost exploded when I learned they they were both from my home state of Michigan...two working girls living in Chicago, originally from Michigan, living out their creative dreams one Instagram and blog post at a time.  I knew we had to collaborate!

It took only one super fun and chatty happy hour to come up with a game plan for a summer photo shoot for their blog and a giveaway. The photo shoot could not have gone any better (if I do say so myself!)  The three of us ended up roaming around Michigan Avenue one sunny and foggy Saturday morning (yes...we have fog and sun simultaneously here) to shoot a few new photos for their blog.  They made my job too easy.   Just look at these two!  Their hearts are as big as their beautiful smiles and their friendship is just as heartwarming!

And now for my first giveaway!  I know I wanted to give away something that I personally loved,  that was functional enough for year round use but would also coordinate well with any home decor.  Ha...now just to find this perfectly versatile and vintage "thing".  Well it didn't take me but two steps into the front door of an estate sale to know I would find exactly what I was looking for.  The decor in this home looked like it hadn't been touched since the mid 1950's and of course, I was in love!  It wasn't long until a set of highball glasses caught my eye with their strikingly simple shape and classic black and white atomic stripe.  If you love all things "Mad Men" than these beauties are for you!  As a bonus, I'm also throwing in a 12 pack of my favorite gold and white striped paper straws!

To pair with the glasses and straws, Kelsey and Erica chose to give away a fantastic gold sequin clutch!  In their words, "...we thought, what more appropriate to represent our love for sequins, style and all things gold than a gorgeous accessory that combines all three?  This sequin clutch is so versatile and a simple way to add a punch of glitz to any outfit.  Style it with a LBD for a night out on the town, or with your favorite pair of jeans and a basic graph tee for an edgy chic look."

I couldn't be happier to be share my first Sweet Market Lane giveaway with a few sweet home state girls like Kelsey and Erica!

I would love to hear how you would incorporate these vintage highball glasses and clutch into your next summer party or night out!

  5. I would love to serve a Dizzy Lizzy in these glasses! The Dizzy Lizzy is White Rum / Aquavit / Absinthe / Lime Juice / House Watermelon Syrup that I first tasted at a place called DownHouse in the Heights area of Houston TX. It is delicious as well as pretty. So pretty that I had to Instagram it when I had it, ha! And for the clutch, well I think I would wear my navy blue skinny pants from JCrew with a bright colored top, some gold jewelry, lots of arm candy and the fab clutch. Thanks for the chance!! Hugs from Conroe, TX
